This course covers how to optimize a WordPress site for search engines. We will cover a content first approach of making sure that the content stands strong on its own. Then we will look at things that can be done to a theme to help search engines understand the content on your site. Finally we will look at SEO plugins that help take your SEO efforts even further.
Content Comes First
To start off our course we will talk about the importance of well written and well organized content. SEO efforts should always start with strong content and then build out from there. In this section we will look at how SEO efforts can be applied to the different types of content you find on a WordPress site.
Enhancing the SEO of a WordPress Theme
Now that we have looked at how to optimize our WordPress content on its own we will look at how we can customize theme template files to make them better optimized for search engines. This includes making sure you have the correct markup for your content and that you have strong content displaying in the right places.
SEO Plugins for WordPress
A number of SEO plugins exist for WordPress sites. In this stage we will briefly look at some of the different types of SEO plugins and then explore the most popular SEO plugin: WordPress SEO by Yoast.
